This week I found some seats for the Crafter. But they were in Cardiff and I am in Cornwall not to far really so we decided to go and get them Saturday afternoon. During the morning I decide to give the cab a bit of a wash as it still resembled a builders van up front. I think maybe I got a bit over enthusiastic with the washing.
We jumped in the van about 2pm to drive up to Wales and the passenger window went down, so I asked my wife “are you hot?” and she replied I thought you just lowered the window. We raised it and with that the drivers side went down I raised it and all seemed fine. So off we drove, about 100 yards up the road the drivers window went back down this time though I couldn’t get it to go back up.
Not to worry I said its probably a fuse and I need to stop for fuel so I will check then. My wife got on the internet to find out what fuse it was well that was harder then you can imagine. So at the petrol station I checked the fuses but I couldn’t find any blown. That wasn’t good news we had a 5 hours trip ahead of us.
My wife posted on a Facebook group and asked for possible ideas while I drove. But it was cold on my hands (it is winter you know)so by the time we got to Cullumpton we stopped again and bought some WD-40 and some gloves. My idea was I must have got water in the switch so surly spraying WD-40 would fix it. No that didn’t work either, so I drove on to Wales it wasn’t raining so I was thankful for small mercies. We picked up the seats, well it was a full interior from a Jaguar X Type, but more on that later.
On the way back we actually had our first meal in this van not actually cooked in the van but a van meal all the same.
We got back to Cornwall about 10:30 pm after an eventful journey. I taped plastic over for the night just to keep it dry. The next day I took the door card off so I was able to access the switch it was really wet. I dried it out with compress air and got the window up but it still wasn’t working properly so I have ordered a new one.
A lesson learnt there I think.
